Many couples choose to exchange vows barefoot in the sand, with the ocean as a romantic backdrop and the gentle rhythm of the waves as their soundtrack. Surrounded by palms and open sky, the setting feels natural, private, and unforgettable. Guests gather around a bonfire under the stars before moving to a beautifully styled long-table dinner by the softly lit pool. Here, dining is a highlight, featuring fresh seafood, vibrant flavours, and thoughtfully curated Swahili-inspired menus.
When you reserve the entire venue, your wedding transforms into a multi-day celebration. With overnight space for up to 28 guests, it becomes an exclusive retreat for you and your closest friends and family. You can exclusively use our ocean-view restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, where everyone can unwind and connect in a relaxed, intimate setting. In between, you can enjoy the property’s facilities, from the swimming pool to the private beachfront. Beyond the celebrations, we can organise a range of activities to make your event even more memorable.
Frequently Asked Questions
The venue is best suited for small to medium-sized groups, with a maximum capacity of approximately 28 overnight stays. For weddings and private events that are booked well in advance, it is also possible to arrange a full buyout of the resort, allowing your group to enjoy exclusive use of all rooms and facilities for a truly private and personalised celebration.
The best time to organise a wedding or event at Basecamp Changani is during the dry season from June to September, when the weather is sunny, warm, and comfortable for outdoor events. January–February is a secondary option, mostly dry but hotter and more humid. Avoid March–May (long rains) and October–December (short, unpredictable rains) unless you have covered facilities. For outdoor weddings, June–September is ideal, and booking 9–12 months in advance is recommended.
Event and wedding planners are very welcome to pre-visit Basecamp Changani to explore the resort and discuss the possibilities for weddings, retreats, or private events. A site inspection allows planners to experience the property’s atmosphere, view the rooms and facilities, and explore potential ceremony and event locations around the resort and the beach. During a pre-visit, our team can also discuss event logistics, accommodation capacity, activities, catering options, and possible event setups to help planners design a smooth and memorable experience for their guests. The resort usually charges a daily fee for the inspection, which will be refunded when the event materialises.

Basecamp Mafia Island provides everything (and more) you would expect from a venue for group gatherings.
Enjoy delicious food, fresh seafood, and tropical cocktails on the beach. Take a snack and a drink at the cool bar right on the beach. Relax by the newly constructed swimming pool or in the spa (wonderful massages). There is a gift shop, free Wi-Fi available, and you can play a game of pool in the lobby with the local Maasai.
