Basecamp Mafia Island is a relaxed and welcoming beachfront retreat that can accommodate families travelling with children of all ages. Cots for infants can be requested. Our local staff adores children, and the friendly, informal atmosphere makes it easy for families to feel at home.
The beachfront location, swimming pool and nearby Mafia Island Marine Park provide plenty of opportunities for adventure, from snorkelling and boat excursions to spotting whale sharks in season. While the lodge does not offer dedicated children’s facilities such as kids’ clubs or playgrounds, it is ideal for families who enjoy nature, the ocean and authentic island experiences together.
Yes, Basecamp Mafia Island can accommodate guests with reduced mobility, but accessibility is partial and may have some limitations, so it is best suited for travellers who require some assistance rather than full wheelchair independence.
The resort offers several accessibility features, including wheelchair-accessible paths of travel, a ramp at the main entrance, and accessible areas such as the reception, lounge, restaurant, spa and swimming pool. The property is single-storey, which means there are no elevators needed, and some areas are designed to be wheelchair accessible.

Most of the diving here takes place at depths of less than 30 meters, making it a sport diver’s paradise. The reefs of the archipelago offer an awe-inspiring display of marine biodiversity, from exposed fringing reefs to rock walls and soft coral habitats. The high diversity and excellent condition of these reefs led to the creation of the Mafia Island Marine Park, the first of its kind in Tanzania and one of the best diving spots in Tanzania.
