Our wonderful Basecamp colleague, Bartek Bogacki, has taken the initiative to create a small but meaningful community project on Mafia Island: a free public playground for local children.
During his time on the island, Bartek noticed how much joy and opportunity could come from creating a playful, physical and imaginative space for children to explore. At the moment, there are no public playgrounds on Mafia Island.
To help change that, he designed a compact, multifunctional wooden playground structure that combines climbing, balancing, swings, sports elements and discovery spaces. Simple to build and easy to maintain, offering a rich and engaging play environment for children of different ages.
Play supports physical development, confidence, and imagination.
Meaningful and tangible value given back to the community.
On 6 June 2026, the playground was officially opened.
Although the DJ arrived two hours late and the event started with a tropical rain shower, the day turned out to be a tremendous success. Approximately 350–400 parents and children attended the celebration and enjoyed a wide range of fun activities, including dancing, cheering, and children’s competitions. Throughout the event, we gave away 300 portions of popcorn, juice, and ice creams, adding to the festive atmosphere. Children who participated in the competitions received awards, and the day concluded with a spectacular live fire performance, what a joy!
