Meet our artists!
We’ve selected the artists for our project! We are proud to announce Michelle, Yamall, Geraldine, Cika, and Kate as the talented individuals who will shape the Artist in Residence project in Sardinia. Applications are now closed, but don’t worry! Follow us on social media to keep up with their work and experience the project up close.
Michelle & Yamell
“I built my own tiny house, which is now an Airbnb near Giethoorn. With my passion for sustainability, I give old materials a second life. My bohemian architectural style combines dark wood tones, plants and the merging of outdoor and indoor space to create an authentic and natural experience.”
Geraldine
”I am an architect and interior designer of private residential housing. My projects range from big to very tiny, even caravans. The latter being an item on my bucket list and finally got to do in 2022. A project I fell in love withand made me signup for the Artist in Residence at Basecamp Sardinia.”
Cika
Cika Annemae loves creating murals in public spaces. Inspired by graffiti and street culture, she enjoys combining text with imagery. Her paintings often feature insects and (fantasy) animals, highlighting our human connection to nature. It is important for a mural to relate to its surroundings. In Sardinia, the local environment will also serve as an inspiration for her work.
Kate
”I’m Kate, an Australian born artisan with Italian heritage. I spent my childhood in my fathers workshop developing a love for handmade items. I love to use my skills to restore life to spaces and things once abandoned. My concept for the project is a light space which showcases beautiful reclaimed timber, vintage decor and custom artworks..”
Artist in residence
Create sleepable art
Basecamp’s Artist in Residence has kicked off in Pula, Sardinia! This project brings together design and construction artists to live and create art in an inspiring environment.
Basecamp’s #ARTRESIDENCY is designed to combine our values of INSPIRATION with LEAVE A TINY FOOTPRINT: we love to re-use existing resources, and create beautiful & useful art with it.
Where we started
At Basecamping Pula in Sardinia, we inherited five old mobile homes from the former campsite. Simply throwing them away is not the Basecamp way. Instead, we invited artists to give them a second life, transforming them into unique pieces of sleepable art.
Where we are today
Four of the five original mobile homes have now been completely transformed as part of our Artists in Residence project. Each artist has created a unique holiday home with its own identity, combining art, design, reuse and functionality.
What was once outdated accommodation has become a collection of one-of-a-kind places to stay, giving existing materials a new life and creating a completely new experience for our guests.
FOLLOW OUR NEXT ADVENTURES
Artists in Residence is just one of the projects in which we experiment with new ideas, creativity, reuse, and sustainability. Across our Basecamp locations, new projects and collaborations are constantly taking shape.
Stay tuned for the next Basecamp projects and the stories behind them.
